Giving to Vineyard Church

As you can imagine, it takes money to do what is needed to be a vibrant, Jesus-centered church community in Charlottesville. From keeping a roof over our heads to investing in the work of God around town, it takes manpower and dollars to keep it going. Giving is one way those who are committed to supporting the work of God in and through our church community make it all happen.

In the Old Testament and under the old covenant, God’s people were commanded to give a tithe (the word literally means tenth) or multiple tithes of their belongings (primarily food) as contributions to the community in which they resided. Under the new covenant, there is no such specific percentage or command given. However, the principles of the old and new covenant alike are still very relevant for disciples of Jesus today.

As disciples, we are called to give generously, give cheerfully (2 Cor 9.6-7) and give sacrificially (Mark 12.41-44) with faith. The amount is whatever we are able to give (2 Cor 8.11-12). This includes our time, our energy, our gifts & talents and our finances. Along with the belief that there is great wisdom in making a commitment to one local church, where we will serve and care for others, while being served and cared for by others, we believe there is wisdom in making the local church our first priority in giving to God’s church. We also believe it will be difficult to grow in discipleship if one is not investing (time, passion, talents, gifts & money) in a local body of believers on a regular basis.

With regards to financial giving, we encourage all to ask God what percentage He wants them to give, then be faithful and consistent with giving that amount, looking for opportunities to grow by being even more generous as their journey of faith continues.

You’ll note that there are three categories you can give to if you click the button below. One is general giving - no specific purpose for the donation - just for the general purpose of contributing to the work God is doing in and through the Vineyard Church family. Second is a Community Life fund - this is for those outside the Vineyard Church family who continue to support the work of our Community Life Pastor, Nathan Walton. Third is for our annual Leap of Faith - a fund we’re utilizing in 2018 and 2019 to provide a stipend to three of our faithful pastors/directors on staff.
