About Us

Our Focus

Our hope is to be a restoration community - one where, regardless of the depth of our relationship with Jesus, we're drawing closer and closer to Him while reflecting His love and character into the world.

This means we put a relationship with God first - seeking to encounter Him, deepen our love for and knowledge of Him while allowing Him to know us and shape us. This means we work to restore hope, joy and satisfaction in our lives - healing the fissures that have separated us from God while growing into the people He created us to be. This means we build solid, supportive and encouraging relationships with one another - celebrating the growth and success of each other while caring for one another through hard times. This means we listen to and observe what God is doing in our surrounding town, country and world, then get busy doing His work, with His power and love.

Our desire is to be a community church, where one can find a cross-section of Charlottesville worshipping and growing together. A community where the focus is on function and not form. Where people are accepted as they are and are not expected to pretend. A group where all are empowered to be the ministers of the church and none are left behind.

Lead Pastor, Jim Bleakley

Jim & his wife Megan moved to Charlottesville in the Summer of 2006 from Evanston, IL to plant the Vineyard church. He grew up in Michigan, attended the University of Michigan, then Michigan State University for his BA and Masters. After University, he spent 7 years in Chicago as a Human Resource professional while serving in a variety of leadership roles at the Evanston Vineyard Christian Church. He now finds himself focused on church oversight and teaching, while balancing an HR job at UVA. Jim has two children (Joshua, 2006; Eliana, 2009).

Children's Pastor, Susan Sexton

Susan has worked with children for over 20 years. She is passionate about seeing our little ones grow, explore and learn about every aspect of the Christian faith. She has been married to her wonderful husband, Mark for 29 years and has three children Anne, Claire and Frank. Susan works as an occupational therapist in the Charlottesville and surrounding areas. She has a love for learning and for teaching and is continually looking for creative ways to engage the children in the truths of God. If you want to see Susan in her element, look for her among the children, blessing them and helping to equip and train them for the future.

Worship Pastor, Megan Bleakley

Megan grew up in Virginia (Lynchburg) and Ohio, then headed to the Windy City (Chicago) for her college years. She did various social work jobs after college, then received a masters in counseling from DePaul University. While studying at Trinity International University, she attended and served in a variety of roles at the Evanston Vineyard Christian Church. While there, she developed a passion for worship and worship leading, a role she plays (among many others) in our church community today. Currently, she spends much of her energy focused on her two children (Joshua, 2006; Eliana, 2009).
